In 70s roller-rink slang, "All Skate" means, "Everyone, do your thing." And, in a town filled with original music, the band All Skate is definitely a little iconoclastic. Funky, melodic, hypnotic, booming, and sometimes bright and ethereal, these musicians combine influences that are a little out of the ordinary for Austin, Texas. Mixing reggae, samba and northeastern Brazilian rhythms with American soul and funk, the All Skate rhythm section generates a fat groove that backs two gifted and powerful lead vocalists. Harmonies flow throughout All Skate's show, with all five players contributing, and the band's catalog of original songs and covers range from bossa nova to deep funk to energized pop.
All Skate has played at many great venues around Austin, and looks forward to performing for you. Everyone, do your thing! Look for All Skate at venues in the Austin area, and follow us on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter.
The Players
Sharon Burley – Lead Vocalist
Sharon Burley has been singing all her life, primally in musical theatre and choir. She graduated from San Francisco State University with a degree in Vocal Performance, where she studied classical music and was a part of various choirs and opera programs, including roles in Les Miserables, Dogfight, Spring Awakening, Old Maid and the Thief, and The Mystery of Edwin Drood. In addition to joining All Skate in 2016, she has also participated in various cabaret shows and revues in Austin. She recently became certified as a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner and has plans to open her own practice, working with people to improve their health with real food.
Amanda Adrian – Lead Vocalist
Amanda Adrian is a vocalist with over 20 years of performing experience. Having grown up in both Southern California and Hawaii, she has been influenced by a wide range of styles. She has studied classical voice as well as Bulgarian Folk, Javanese, and North Indian music. In 2011 she graduated from California Institute of the Arts with a BFA in Musical Arts. Since her time there she has performed throughout Southern California, Honolulu and now in Austin. Amanda performs as a solo artist in many venues around Austin.
Sergio Yazbek – Guitarist, Vocalist
Hailing from Sao Paulo, Brazil, Sergio has been a professional musician since the mid 80s, playing with many top Brazilian artists, including Gilberto Gil, Martinho da Vila, Cidade Negra, Obina Shok, Alcione, Banda Black Rio, Ed Motta and many more. With Cidade Negra, he recorded 8 CDs and 4 DVDs, and many achieved gold and platinum status. He has toured Europe, Japan, US, Africa, plus South America and Brazil countless times. He played twice at the Montreux Jazz Festival (2003 and 2012) and at the 2011 Rock in Rio Festival, among many other festivals. Sergio has earned two Grammy® nominations. He relocated to Austin in 2016, where he has performed with many local bands across a wide variety of musical styles.
Hamilton Nabors – Bassist, Vocalist
Originally from Houston, Texas, Hamilton applies 20+ years of experience to cultivate a deep pocket that provides the foundation that All Skate rolls on. An articulate bassist inspired by an eclectic brew of jazz, R&B, rock and funk, he combines these styles with Brazilian rhythms to inspire people to move and shake. Also a talented vocalist, he adds color and subtle depth to All Skate's harmonic palette. Hamilton relocated to Austin in 1996 and established himself on the local scene as a first-call bassist, playing with many original projects, working bands and ACL showcases across multiple genres, including: El Tule, Alex Henley Band, Val Paradise, Lift, Austin Party Band, Dysfunkshun Junkshun and The Blues Crawlers.
Bruce Popky – Drummer, Vocalist, Composer
Bruce lived the first 25+ years of his life in the Philadelphia area, where he played drums in many bands, performing in regional venues, starting in his mid-teens: from reggae in north Philly to weekly funk gigs on the Jersey shore to original music showcases in New York City to deadhead festivals in Baltimore, and more. Relocating to Austin in the mid 90s, he kept working at songwriting while drumming in many local bands and clubs, including several years co-leading the experimental American/Brazilian pop band, "Espiritu." He founded "The Flying Club" in 2004, performing Brazilian-influenced pop featuring his original compositions. The Flying Club released the album Far and Away in 2006, which Bruce co-produced with Mark Hallman in Austin, and Eugenio Dale in Rio de Janeiro. The album included contributions by top musicians from both cities, and received both national reviews and international airplay. He founded All Skate in 2016, starting out as a casual Brazilian-pop cover group, but the band later shifted its focus to performing new arrangements of his original compositions.
